A Silent Danger

Um Perigo Silencioso

If you live in homes or apartments that are close to bushes, buildings or even garbage, be careful! A dangerous silent insect could be near you or inside your home.

With high temperatures there is a large increase in the appearance of insects and scorpions, they go out in search of food and shelter, and often find this inside houses.

They normally live in forests, humid places, garbage, buildings, cemeteries and deserts, and have a very high survival capacity and resistance.

As it is a poisonous animal, it causes even more fear in people, its venom is neurotoxic, as it acts especially on the nervous system, and can cause death by asphyxiation, as the commands that control our breathing are blocked.

Its venom is in the stinger and it is through this that the bite occurs. The action of the venom is very fast and strong, followed by very intense pain that radiates throughout the victim's body.

The diet of these arachnids is mostly cockroaches, crickets and other insects.

However, what matters most is, how can we prevent this silent danger?

Some forms of prevention are pest control with a specialized company, and use of plants and natural artifices to repel scorpions.

Some of these plants are: Ladvance (repellent against scorpions and other insects, lavender works as a barrier against these insects); and Cinnamon (natural scorpion repellent, sprinkle some cinnamon on the entrances of your home, windows and door skirting boards to keep these arachnids away)

Finally and most importantly, what to do if someone gets stung?

First of all, stay calm, it is common to feel desperate in this situation, the rescue action needs to be quick but the person bitten is already desperate due to the pain, so if you are providing assistance, above all, stay calm.

After identifying the bite,

  • Wash the area with soap and water.;
  • Keep the bite site facing up.;
  • Never squeeze or try to drill the area.;
  • Drink plenty of water;
  • Go to the nearest emergency room or call emergency services – 192.

We cannot hesitate, this animal is very close to us, and acts silently.

Always keep your trash clean, put protectors under doors, cover drains, check your shoes before putting them on and use natural repellent tips to stay free from this evil.
